Bio:

Carlie graduated in 2000, following which she gained valuable foundational in-patient experience within the clinical specialities of acute medical, acute psychiatry and care of the older adult. In 2002 Carlie worked internationally, as an occupational therapist in New Zealand, within forensic mental health (in-patient) and older adult psychiatry in the Wellington community. This provided valuable experience of a wide range of mental health conditions with adults and older adults. Between 2007 and 2016, Carlie’s career was focused upon older adult care and the rehabilitation of adult clients, she worked in both inpatient and community settings in New Zealand and Australia.

Carlie returned to the UK in 2016 and she began working within the private sector in 2017 as an independent occupational therapist. During this time her work has been largely focused on the treatment and rehabilitation of clients with orthopaedic trauma and neurological conditions, supporting them with returning to important life roles, vocations and occupations. Carlie worked as a Clinical Team Leader from 2019 until 2024, supporting occupational therapists in their clinical work and with quality assurance.

During her career, Carlie has worked in both managerial and consultancy roles and as part of National groups. She continues to provide clinical supervision to other therapists. Carlie is dedicated to on-going education and professional development and she completed a Master of Occupational Therapy Degree in July 2016, for which she received the Linda Robertson award of excellence. Carlie has written a number of publications and she is passionate about all areas of occupational therapy and the difference that can be made on a personal, community and health system level. Carlie utilises evidence-based practice and keeps her knowledge and skills up to date by regularly reflecting on her practice with use of formal supervision and attending relevant courses and seminars.
